Abstract
Okoli leta 2000 postane populizem široko raziskovan koncept, saj se v tem obdobju pojavi vse več populističnih strank, tako na politični desnici kot na levici. S tem, ko populizem postane razširjen, se veliko političnih akterjev odloči, da bodo glasove ljudstva osvojili s pomočjo skrbno ustvarjene podobe karizmatičnega vodje, ki je prišel, da reši ljudstvo pred koruptivnimi elitami. Takšen primer je tudi makedonski populistični vodja politične stranke Levica, Dimitar Apasiev. V obdobju dveh volitev, od ustanovitve stranke, je Apasiev pridobil 4 % glasov in dva sedeža v parlamentu. Cilj diplomskega dela je prikazati njegovo komunikacijo in slog ter določiti, ali Apasiev komunicira bolj kot levi ali desni populist z uporabo treh populističnih antagonizmov: osredotočenost na ljudi, anti-elitizem in drugačenje (othering) ter analizirati, ali obstajajo vzorci populizma čez več časovnih okvirjev. Z uporabo diskurzivne analize sklepam, da ni vsaka kritika političnega vodstva populistična. Čeprav ima Apasiev določene znacˇilnosti levega populizma, kot so npr. kritiziranje elit skozi humor in ustvarjanje vzdevkov ter poveličevanje ljudi zaradi njihove čistosti - medtem ko se postavi kot njihov vodja -, ne moremo skleniti, da je populist. Edini vzorec, ki se pojavi v analizi populizma, kaže na pogostejšo populistično retoriko v času začetka pandemije koronavirusa.

Title:Left-wing populism in Macedonia: The Twitter communication of the leader of the political party Levica, Dimitar Apasiev : diplomsko delo
Abstract:
Populism became a widely researched concept during the 2000s when right and left-wing populist parties rose to prominence. Populism became widespread and a lot of political actors started becoming mainstream politicians by winning the vote of the citizens through the carefully formulated image of a charismatic leader who is here to save the pure people from the corrupt elites. Such an example is the Macedonian populist leader of political party Levica – Dimitar Apasiev. In just two elections from the forming of the party in 2015, Apasiev has managed to secure a 4 % vote and two seats in Parliament. The study aims to see his communication and style and determine whether he communicates like a left-wing populist through the three populist tropes: people-centrism, anti-elitism and othering and if there are any patterns in his communication style across multiple timelines. Using content and descriptive analysis it is concluded that populism is deeply dependent on context and not all criticism of the political establishment is deemed populist. Furthermore, although Apasiev has elements of left-wing populism, such as criticizing the elites through nickname calling and humor, and praising the people for their purity while posing himself as their advocate, it cannot be said that he is in fact a populist. His communication consists of Finally, the only pattern found through an analysis of populism over time was the increase of populist rhetoric during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
