Food is one of the most important sources of energy without which we cannot imagine life. However, the way it is grown and managed today threatens both its well-being and the well-being of society and the environment. There are huge irregularities along food supply chains that require immediate systemic changes at all links in the supply chain. Awareness and knowledge of the issues is critical to any changes. In our study, we therefore focused on consumers and their perceptions of food supply chains. The results of the qualitative survey clearly showed that the food industry is not of interest to the general public and therefore there is a significant knowledge gap among consumers. Relevant institutions should therefore focus on promoting socially responsible practices throughout the supply chain.
