The thesis Word Forming Lexemes in Media Publications presents some of the new derivations appearing in journalistic texts during the Covid-19 epidemic in Slovenia. Due to the occurrence of the novel coronavirus, there also occurred a health crisis and economic problems, clearly reflected in the emergence of neologisms, with some of these new words, however, acquiring new meanings. The Growing Dictionary of the Slovenian Language confirms the significant influence of non-linguistic factors on language, and especially on dictionaries, as almost 2/3 of new dictionary entries in 2020 are directly or indirectly related to the coronavirus. An analysis of various journalistic texts has shown that both systemically less predictable and unpredictable, as well as systemically predictable created words appear in media releases. The keyword in creating new lexical items was korona and its derivatives, mostly compound words (e.g. koronačas). It is expected that some neologisms will last longer, while others will not become established in general linguistic use and will thus sink into oblivion.
