Izhodišče magistrske naloge je bilo delo na mavčnih odlitkih kiparja Frančiška Smerduja, ki jih hrani Narodna galerija v Ljubljani, v sklopu priprave na razstavo. Naloga se osredotoča na problematiko stabilizacije mavčnih kipov na ravni celotne strukture. Obsega pregled dejavnikov propadanja, materialov in različnih metod, ki so na razpolago konservatorjem-restavratorjem za reševanje strukturnih problemov mavčnih skulptur, ter jih predstavlja skozi zorni kot praktične izkušnje na Smerdujevih odlitkih.

• Title: The stabilization of plaster casts. Issues, solutions, experiences.

Abstract

The inspiration for this master's thesis was the practical experience of the conservation-restoration work executed on a number of plaster casts by Slovenian modernist sculptor Frančišek Smerdu, as part of the preparation of an exhibition of his casts at the National Gallery of Slovenia. The thesis focuses on the issue of the stabilization of the structure of plaster artworks. It includes an overview of the different risk factors, as well as the different materials and methods available for the treatment of plaster objects, and presents them through the viewpoint of the practical experience on Smerdu's casts.
