Introduction: Hallux valgus is one of the most common progressive deformities of the first bone of the foot. Particularly vulnerable groups are individuals wearing narrow shoes or shoes with high heels. In addition to inappropriate footwear, various musculoskeletal irregularities, connective tissue disorders, muscular imbalance, genetics, occupation, gender, age and obesity also contribute to the deformity. There are many possibilities of surgical and non-surgical treatment, but recently there has been an increase in the use of corrective elastic and non-elastic adhesive tapes. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to determine the effects of adhesive tape on the lowering of the angle of hallux valgus and pain and improve the functions of the foot. Methods: Descriptive method with a literature review in English and Slovene, using the databases Pubmed, Cinahl and Science direct was used in the thesis. The following key words were used: hallux valgus, corrective taping, conservative treatment and effects of taping. Results: Six studies have been included in the review. Four studies showed, that regular use of elastic or non-elastic tape should lead to a decrease in the angle of hallux valgus, which should be maintained for another month after the use of adhesive tape. In addition authors reported, that walking and quality of life did improve after applying adhesive tape. The pain was also reduced. Discussion and conclusion: Adhesive tapes have a major impact on preventing and inhibiting the disability that an untreated hallux valgus deformity could bring. There is a reduction in the angle of hallux valgus, pain and an improvement in walking parameters.
