Abstract
V nadaljevanju obravnavamo virtualne time, saj so le-ti pogosto sestavljeni iz članov različnih kultur.

Title:Intercultural communication in companies: a case study of multicultural teams during the covid-19 pandemic : diplomsko delo
Abstract:
This thesis deals with the relation between intercultural communication in multicultural teams, virtual teams and the covid-19 pandemic. Our main goal is to find out what we can achieve by participating in multicultural teams, to check how communication between culturally diverse team members is reflected and discuss the consequences that the covid-19 pandemic has caused. In the theoretical part, we discuss the concept of culture and teams; highlight the role of culture in communication, basic models of intercultural communication and barriers that arise on the way to effective and successful communication. Later on, we discuss virtual teams, as they are often made up of members of different cultures. We present advantages and disadvantages of virtual communication, and finally, we focus on the changed context during the covid-19 pandemic, which presents great challenges for working in multicultural teams. The empirical part confirms that with the rise of covid-19 pandemic, multicultural teams have largely shifted to teleworking. We observe that in addition to tensions in communication due to cultural differences, a new reality resulted in further barriers that have emerged as a result of the increased level of virtuality. At the same time, we learn that working with culturally diverse team members produces many benefits and positive effects.

Keywords:Culture, intercultural communication, multicultural teams, virtual teams, covid-19 pandemic.
