Abstract

Title:Barriers for elementary schools in providing information on perceived suspicions of violence against children
Abstract:
The main goal of the master thesis was to clarify the difficulties and reasons why elementary schools refuse to report any suspected violence against children to the Social Work Centre. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on domestic violence against children, peer violence and the school as a place where all children should feel safe. School employees should protect children’s rights and benefits, however, despite detecting a breach of rights, they don't report this maltreatment to competent institutions, i.e., Social Work Centre, which could provide adequate support to helpless victims of violence. Furthermore, the legislation perspective is summarized, which bounds the school employees to take decisive action regardless of their own beliefs and fears. The research part of the thesis is based on the results of the interviews, carried out with school consultants and principles. It focuses on difficulties that prevent the transmission of information, cooperation between the institutions and its success, awareness of the duty to protect children, and the sensibility of school employees. My personal experience of working at one of the elementary schools is also included in the research, along with the results of the executed interviews. Finally, we observed whether the sensibility of the school principals, consultants, teachers and technical staff is greater than the influence of the environment.

Keywords:violence, child protection, cooperation with institutions, intervention, difficulties in information transmission
