Abstract

Abstract:
Five Slovene anti-proverbs are presented that were most frequently named by the respondents in a recent piece of paremiological research. By comparing these examples with some equivalent anti-proverbs in other (mostly Slavic) languages, we touch upon the issue of phraseological internationalisms. Past processes through which anti-proverbs became new proverbs can be used as a starting point when speculating on the future of contemporary Slovene anti-proverbs. The basic factor is the potential of every single anti-proverb not only to have a humorous effect, but also to relate to everyday referential situations. The reception and usage of anti-proverbs among Slovene speakers will also depend on how this paremiological genre is lexicographically described.
