The main purpose of the master's thesis was to present, through a set of exercises, the importance of mastering physical skills and development of children for learning table tennis. In Slovenia, there is a lack of literature on methodology directed at the youngest and beginners, on broader motor development of teaching table tennis. The master's thesis offers additional information on how to improve the process of learning table tennis at any given age category. Furthermore, it provides an extensive theoretical starting point targeted at coaches of beginners and younger groups. Part of the content is dedicated specifically to practical exercises, through which we develop individual physical capabilities and hence improve the actual performance of diverse table tennis elements.
The master's thesis is of the monographic type. It uses the descriptive method, which is founded on the analysis of domestic and foreign academic sources. It combines the overview of documentation materials, books and electronic sources with added personal experience in the profession of teaching table tennis at a club. The integral part provides a carefully considered set of exercises, for teaching fundamental motor skills and basic table tennis elements.
It is important that coaches and teachers introduce table tennis to children in a fun and creative way during training and lessons. A child can enjoy himself and be successful in the game of table tennis from the very first lesson, if it is introduced through play and adapted exercises. With our findings we would like to offer and introduce the trainers and teachers additional information about the importance of preparation exercises and games in table tennis for younger players.
