The curriculum for physical education in primary schools requires five sports days per school year for each grade. Two sports days must have mountaineering content. In the master's thesis, we introduced the importance of walking for modern man, the history of mountaineering in Slovenia, and the position of mountaineering in the curriculum for physical education. We presented the phases of preparation, implementation, and analysis of a mountaineering trip as a part of a sports day. We highlighted the importance of the appropriate training for a primary school teacher, a mountaineering trip leader in primary school. In the empirical part, we updated the questionnaire based on Kristan (1987). According to the findings, we determined the state of mountaineering content realization in the first five grades of primary school throughout Slovenia and compared it with previous research. We focused on planning mountaineering trips as a part of sports days, on mountaineering content in the curriculum, on the activities of a mountaineering group at school, and the interest of primary school teachers in mountaineering in their private life. We were also interested in planning mountaineering trips as part of sports days according to the statistical region in which the primary school teacher works.
