Abstract

Abstract:
The article analyses Slovenes' collective memories of World War II from the point of view of discourse theory. The main goal is to find out how the media not only preserve but also construct collective memories of World War II, as by forming the opinions of recipients they can determine how society remembers the past. The second goal of the article is to define from which discourses articles emerge and how the media instrumentalise the past for their own, often political, purposes.

Keywords:World War II, media discourse, collective memory, discourse analysis
