The main aim of this thesis is to explore awareness and prevalence of eating disorders at the First High School in Celje. In the theoretical introduction, the problem of eating disorders was introduced and explained. First I have explained the problem of food and feeding, than listed different definitions of eating disorders. Following chapters explained differences between the medical and social work models of treatment with eating disorders, risk factors and consequences of eating disorders. The large part of the theoretical introduction was about medical treatment and forms of help. At the end of the theoretical part of the thesis the importance of awareness and the role of social work is presented. In the empirical part, I wanted to explore, whether the students of the First High School in Celje are aware of eating disorders, how many of them have or had an eating disorder, which types of eating disorders are the most widespread amongst them and whether their experience differs based on age and gender. The paper also presents what is the range of knowledge regarding measures and assistance about eating disorders and whether high schools want more information and knowledge about forms of help regarding these issues. Results showed that the students at the First High School in Celje are not well acquainted. The prevalence of eating disorders is 11,3 %, and compulsive eating disorder is the most prevalent. The way different genders and age groups respond to the analysed issues has also been observed. It was discovered that both male and female students have the necessary knowledge of ways to help and take measures against these issues, but one can claim that they do not know enough about eating disorders and want additional information. At the end of the paper, the discussion, conclusions and annexes were added.
