A watermark is an artistic creation hidden in paper. It becomes visible to us when we turn a sheet of paper towards the light.
In the theoretical part of my diploma thesis, I researched the role of drawing in historical, cultural and artistic development. Drawing plays a central role and is a major starting point in the creation of watermarks. I also presented the historical development of paper. Paperless life is hard to imagine in today's world, as it is still the most important source of information in our cultural life and also a universal material, which is an integral part of our everyday life due to its wide range of uses. The main theme in the central part are watermarks. I researched their history from the Middle Ages to the present day. I presented their significance then and now, and how it was influenced by technological development.
In the author's work, I wanted to present my work as a watermark designer. How watermarks are created today and how modern technology plays a role in this.
In my pedagogical work, I researched how and in which way we can include watermarks in the artistic and creative process in schools, from designing watermarks, to making handmade paper.
