This study assesses the factors affecting paternal involvement in Slovenia utilising The Paternal Involvement With Infants Scale, The Maternal Gatekeeping Scale and The Parenting Sense of Competency Scale translated and suitability checked through confirmatory factor analysis. We tested our hypotheses and answered research questions by determining correlation coefficients and performing regression analysis on data collected from our sample group of 194 employed fathers, with an average age of 31 years old, living with their partners and infants, with an average age of seven months old; 73,2 % of our participants had one child and 91,8 % of the mothers were on maternity leave. Results suggest that the duration of fathers' workdays, infant gender and age, quantity of scientific literature read in the prenatal period, maternal control and paternal sense of competence as a parent were important predictors of active fatherhood; in Slovenia, the most important predictors of active fatherhood were quantity of scientific literature read by fathers in the prenatal period, duration of fathers’ workdays and their sense of competence.
