The MA thesis explores the use of fairy tales in English language teaching in Slovenian primary schools. The aim is not only to determine the extent of using fairy tales in the EFL classroom, but also to analyse the didactic elements of the tales used. The thesis is comprised of two main parts. The theoretical overview brings together the key perspectives on the topic as it defines fairy tales, examines previous research, reviews various reasons for using fairy tales in the language classroom, and revises the process of including stories in lessons. The empirical part of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis of fairy tales in textbooks aimed at primary school students in Slovenia. The analysis examines the frequency, adaptations and use of fairy tales in textbooks.
