Abstract

Title:Design and development of experimental setup for studying cavitation on a sample insulated from surrounding air
Abstract:
In times of steadily population growth, energy demand and environmental problems are increasing, thus it is crucial that all technologies used are sustainable. Regarding that, hydrodynamic cavitation shows great potential in the field of wastewater treatment, as its use is more cost-effective, less energy-intensive and more environmentally friendly than conventional treatment methods. The development of technologies involving favourable effects of hydrodynamic cavitation brings many challenges, since its mechanisms, which enable water treatment, are still poorly understood. In order to determine the effect on the appearance of hydrodynamic cavitation, by adding salicylic acid to water, we designed and manufactured an experimental rig, which enables the study of hydrodynamic cavitation of a liquid sample isolated from the surrounding air. Cavitaiton of three different samples of salicylic acid added to water in concentrations 0, 50 and 300 mg/l were filmed with a fastcam. In addition, we also measured and analyzed pressure fluctuations in the region of cavitation structure appearance, for each sample separately. The obtained results were compared with a reference study were similar experiments were performed in a different type of cavitation station.
