The thesis deals with the problem of terminology in alpinism in Slovene, English and Japanese. The problem is the lack of terminological standardisation and terminological research in the field.
In Chapter 2, the thesis presents the theoretical basis of terminology and terminography for the research and analysis. In Chapter 3, a general overview of the history of alpinism in Slovenia, Great Britain and Japan is presented. Next, the past and current state of alpine terminology in Slovene, English and Japanese is covered. Steps that have already been made towards standardisation in the field are covered as well. In Chapter 4, the analysis is presented. This chapter is divided into two parts, the analysis of English and the analysis of Japanese. The terms corresponding to the Slovene terms alpinizem, alpnist and alpinističen are analysed in English and Japanese through the opinion of field experts, general and terminological dictionaries and a special corpus. This corpus was compiled exclusively for the thesis. In chapter 5, the findings of the analysis are presented.
