The paper looks at the appearance of the character of the Cankaresque mother in the new media. First, the classic interpretations of the character are presented; then, with the help of the corpus Janes, it is established whether the Cankaresque mother is written about online, in what contexts and how. Corpus hits are analysed first quantitatively with regard to the metadata generated (text type, gender of author, sentiment, and language standard), and then in terms of content. The analysis shows that the Cankaresque mother is still a topical theme, but that today's interpretations of the character are different from those in the past.
