Pop music is part of the mosaic of national culture and just like "high" or serious culture it expresses something about the world in which it arises and thematises basic questions about life. Without doubt, its most frequent theme is love. This is put into words in Slovene pop music to reflect a wide spectrum of feelings and different contexts, from the intimate to the social and socio-critical. As well as thematic diversity, such lyrics offer an insight into the functional diversity of Slovene and its variation over time. This paper also has a cultural-informative goal. The intention is to present to the primary addressee, the foreign student of Slovene, in a non-intrusive way, the quality of Slovene pop, especially from the "golden era" of Slovene popular ballads, as well as from later years and genres.
