In Spanish literature of the sixteenth and seventeenth century, i.e. the Golden Age in which flourished the Renaissance and the Baroque, the theme of love is undoubtedly one of the most important and most often addressed. Spanish poets, writers and dramatists dealt with love in line with the aesthetic guidelines of those times and in the specific spirit of Spanish society. The contribution discusses some literary examples with a love theme in connection with the social dimension of that time. There was a series of exceptional literary works that directly influenced later European literature and, indirectly, also Slovene literature. Among the hitherto inadequately researched examples of influence we should include Prešeren's poetry, which was partly inspired by Spanish authors of the Golden Age.
