The bachelor’s thesis aims to explain the changes that contributed to the progress of the individual during the Renaissance. From among the many renowned philosophers that lived in Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the thesis only focuses on those whose work significantly impacted human society and therefore the individual. Following a short description of the Renaissance, the thesis focuses on the Church’s power and influence over the individual, on a number of crucial ideas that were put forward (e.g. studies of antiquity and the fight against destiny), and finally on the changes in the human perception of the Cosmos in this period.
