Abstract

Title:
Recovery of women who experienced intimete partner violence
Abstract:
In my dissertation, I am presenting the recovery of women after the experience of intimate partner violence. In the theoretical part I discuss violence in intimate relationships, consequences, that are left on the survivors of domestic abuse and the process of healing after the abuse. In my research I focus on the dynamics of transition from an abusive relationship to independent life that is full of trauma and danger. Dissertation is based on the stories and narrations of women with the experience of violence in the intimate relationship. The focus of my interest was on what women feel and go through during the transition from domestic abuse to independent life, how are they dealing with the emotional distress caused by violence, how their life has changed after the relationship was over, the importance of social network and professional workers on the way of recovery and lessons they learned from the experience of violence in intimate relationship. On bases of the research results I ca conclude that women during the breakup process feel anxious and sad but also "empty" and insecure, because they feel like they have lost everything. After the break up process their feelings become less intensive, even though women still miss their partners and the environment they used to live in. Eventually they get used to the new life, which gets better once they start to feel free again, the fear fades and they get stronger with the support of their social network and professional workers.
