In everyday life, social networks act as a web tool which allows each individual user to follow other users and pass their free time in such a way. Twitter is known as the one with easily accesible information, while following other users is simple. Over the last decade, the usage of Twitter amongst journalists, sports in particular, has increased. Sports bring excitement, unexpectedness, strong emotions and feelings. Sports also happen in real-time, and that is what makes connection between Twitter and sports journalism part of the modern era research. This research builds on previous researches and it was concluded with a method of semi-structured in-depth interviews. The interviews were conducted with ten sports journalists who work at ESPN and cover american football. The analysis showed the ways sports journalists use Twitter are diverse, since all the interviewees use it actively, but with different purpose. Consequently, the role of the journalists as gatekeepers changes as well. This also affects their journalistic duties and changes journalism as a profession in general.
