Abstract

Title:Analysis of materials in the production of total denture : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Toothlessness is a condition that most commonly occurs among older people. It means the absence of teeth in the upper and lower jaw, and is divided into partial or complete. The main causes for it are mainly dental caries and advanced periodontal disease. Complete edentulousness can be provided with a total removable prosthesis, which is still the first option in the rehabilitation of edentulousness. It can be made in several ways. Currently, the classic method and the injection method according to the Ivocap system are still the most commonly used. The additive method with 3D printing and the subtractive method with milling are also showing increasing progress. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to describe the manufacture of total dentures in several ways and make a prosthetic product by one of the described methods and perform bending tests of materials for which we compared data on mechanical properties, and determine the advantages and disadvantages of each technique. Methods of work: In the theoretical part we used a descriptive method. We studied the literature we found on the Internet while reading professional journals, books, articles, diplomas and books in web browsers and in the library of the Faculty of Health, which were available in the years 2019-2020. The literature was in Slovene, Croatian and English. In the practical part, we made specimens for bending tests and a prosthetic product according to one of the described methods. The process was illustrated. Results: We presented the manufacturing process of the test specimens and the results of the bending tests. The production of prostheses with hot sprayed acrylate according to the Ivocap method is also described. The procedure is illustrated. Discussion: From the results of bending tests, we found that hot-sprayed acrylate by the Ivocap method has the best values. Conclusion: New manufacturing technologies, such as CAD / CAM milling and 3D printing technology, show great potential in the future of laboratory dental prosthetics. In most clinical cases of prosthetic care with a removable total prosthesis, the price is still decisive when choosing the manufacturing technique.
