Success of any organization depends on the motivation of employees – it increases productivity and the given tasks are consequently done well. Motivation of employees depends to a great extent on the leader of the organization, therefore it is necessary to pay a lot of attention to education and training of the leaders.
The purpose of this thesis is to research the field of motivation in two different municipalities and find out the level of motivation among public workers, how often do their leaders try to motivate them by specific motivational factors and which of those motivational factors have an effect on productivity of public workers and their ability to get the tasks done well.
The results of the survey show that the majority of participants in both municipalities are highly motivated, less than 5% are poorly motivated or unmotivated. The most often motivational factor used by the leaders is in the first municipality job security and in the second municipality suitable work environment. The motivational factors that affect the “task done well” the most are in the first municipality good relations with superiors, good relations with colleagues and interesting tasks, and in the second municipality good relations with colleagues. The productivity of employees in the first municipality is the most affected by interesting work, while in the second municipality by good relations with colleagues and superiors.
Organizations in both municipalities should keep up the good work in the field of motivation by maintaining good relations among colleagues and their superiors. They should pay more attention to expressing praise, better communication with employees, possibility of co-decision and initiation of team buildings.
