This paper focuses on the accountability of implementing measure of children's admission to the institution. In their line of work, social workers often find themselves in such casses where there are no other options left other than placing a child in an institution and thus helping them and their family cope with the problems. The main goal of the paper is to identify what does accountability at work mean for social workers involved with implementing measure of children's admission to the institution and in what ways is that reflected during the implementation of such measures.
In the theoretical part of this paper I shall focus on the subject of ethics in social work, as ethical decision making is quite important in implementing such measures, mightily influencing the lives of those involved. I would also like to describe the term accountability, as it is the focal point of my research and shall therefore focus on that in particular. I will also focus on the legal foundations of children's admission to the institution and the very purpose of those measures.
This research was done in collaboration with social workers experienced in implementing protective measure of children's admission to the institution. During the interviews with them I researched how does the implementation work in practice, and what is the opinion of those social workers of the measure. Apart from that, I was also interested in what feelings social workers face during the implementation of the measure. The next topic, which is also the main subject of this master thesis is about the importance of accountability and what it means to the social workers and how it is reflected through of children's admission to the institution. In the interviews with the social workers, I witnessed examples of responsible and also irresponsible actions. The third subject that I merely touched on briefly is the stance of social workers towards public opinion, as in certain situations accountability is shared and in others taken. At the end I asked the social workers of their opinion of codes of ethics and how much they adhere to them in their work.
