The content of the master's thesis is based on the field of wall paintings on the exterior of the registered ethnological building heritage and on rural buildings. The first part presents the perception of the ethnological building heritage and the problems of its conservation. The main part of the theory is the presentation of an analysis of the data collected in the Catalogue of wall paintings of the ethnological building heritage in the Posočje region. The analysis was created on the basis of research work in the archive of the ZVKDS and in field work. The processed data revealed the number of buildings with wall paintings, their purpose and the number of wall paintings. The data of individual paintings provided information on motifs, authorship, dating, the predominant technique of wall paintings, the way of preservation and the number of detached wall paintings.
The second part of the master's thesis is a practical part of the conservation-restoration of two wall paintings detached from a demolished residential house in Čepovanska dolina. This part contains a description of the performed conservation and restoration procedures with an emphasis on the techniques and materials used.
