The research seeks to answer the question of the purpose and importance of decorating roundabouts for the decorating initiators, as well as the inhabitants of three Slovenian municipalities: Novo mesto, Sevnica and Trebnje. The main idea is that the representations on the central islands of the roundabouts of the surveyed municipalities, according to the initiators, represent the identity of place, which is used for promotion of place, companies and individuals. The discussion about the art value of the representations helps better understanding of the process of decorating and funcioning of municipalities, which is also reflected in the (non) compliance of legislation in the decorating of roundabouts. The text also raises the question of the type of space of the central islands of roundabouts, mostly, whether it is a public space, as is often presented.
