The master's thesis deals with the reintroduction of the settlement planning area in the Spatial Planning Act of 2017. During the preparation of the thesis, the current and past legislation in the field of settlement regulation and domestic and foreign literature were reviewed and analyzed. The definition of a settlement in Slovenia and the legally determined boundary of a settlement were analyzed in more detail, represented by 10 buildings with house numbers. The selection of relevant morphological elements is crucial in defining different types of settlements. For the purposes of the master's thesis, the shape and structure of the settlement according to Melik (1933) was chosen, which best illustrates the mutual position of the buildings. The selection of criteria and criteria for determining the regulatory area of the settlement is based on the analysis of the existing formal, functional, physigonomic - morphological and structural criteria of various authors. Based on the analysis of the criteria of the considered authors the following is the proposed minimum criteria necessary for the construction of a rural settlement planning area. Different spatial data are analyzed with geoinformation tools and using the selected criteria, a proposal for regulatory areas of settlements was made and land use for selected rural settlements.
