Abstract

Title:Slovenian translation awards since its independence
Abstract:
This master's thesis focuses on reviewing the criteria for awarding translation awards in Slovenia since its independence. The research takes into account the Jury’s justifications and arguments. The results of the analysis have shown that translations of canonized or more prominent literary works are more often awarded. In the theoretical part of the master's thesis, The theoretical part of this thesis presents the impact of the awards on the work in society, the literary translation, the position of translation in the target culture and an overview of all the translation awards awarded in Slovenia. The empirical part consists of the analysis of all the justifications from Slovenia’s independence and the conclusion. The thesis particularly researches whether translations of canonized works in the baseline culture and already established translators are more likely to receive any award than translations of non-canonized works and not yet established translators.
