The diploma thesis contains L. F. Marsigli's journey from 1679, when he visits Istanbul for the first time, till the last act of demarcation in 1701, following the Karlowitz treaty. The thesis starts with a presentation of 17th-century conflicts, Marsigli's early life and his role in imperial army, the siege of Vienna, Marsigli's captivity, and Habsburg advance to Ottoman Hungary. The main part deals with the fighting in the Balkans, Habsburg victories, rebellions of the Balkan peoples and warfare in 1685¬¬¬¬¬–1697. This includes also Marsigli's research of the Danube river basin and his diplomatic mission in 1691–1693. The syntesis concludes with the end of warfare, peace negotiations, demarcation expedition, Marsigli's further opus and his library.
