Abstract

Title:Post-Dramatic Writing and Post-Dramatic Staging. The Role of Text in Post-Drama Theater on the Case of Two Staged Plays by Simona Semenič: no title yet and we, the european corpses
Abstract:
The undergraduate thesis attempts to explore the role of no longer dramatic text in contemporary staging practices in Slovenia on the example of two plays by Simona Semenič, no title yet (2018) and we, the european corpses (2015). Firstly, based on fundamental theoretical sources, shows play's deviations from the classical dramatic paradigm and explains specific formal tendencies of Simona's dramatic aesthetics, noting that postdramatic hierarchization and individualization of theatrical signs are part of play's organic structure. The analysis of the performances (Tomi Janežič, 2018) and we, the european corpses (Sebastijan Horvat, 2016) show the realization of many elements of post-dramatic aesthetics, such as emphasized physicality, focus on the performative and processuality, unmimetic character construction, dehierarchization of theatrical signs, activated spectatorship, reduction of the text's role. Together, they show that the post-dramatic concept is still relevant in contemporary Slovenian theater. The analysis of the role of the text in the performances shows, that the directors introduce certain play-related mechanisms into the performance, such as the disintegration of language and fragmentation of scenes, but following the example of post-dramatic aesthetics, they do not derive directly from the text, but develop their own independent language.
