Electric cars and electric vehicles in general are becoming increasingly popular and competitive with classic internal combustion vehicles. The dissertation begins with the history of the electric car and its development. Different types of electric vehicles and the most important components of the electric drive are presented with special emphasis on the battery. The thesis then focuses on the environmental issues of electric vehicles, charging stations, plugs and sockets needed to charge a car, different ways of charging electric cars, and car safety. Trends in the purchase of electric cars, three of the best-selling cars, and the number of registered passenger electric cars in the Republic of Slovenia for the period from 2014 to 2019 are also presented. The bachelor’s thesis concludes with a presentation of state subsidies offered by Slovenia. These subsidies are then compared with subsidies from more developed countries of the European Union.
