Air pollution is one of Egypt's serious problems, especially in the capital city Cairo because of the high concentration of traffic, population and different activities. Striving for better air quality is one of the top priorities of the Egyptian government. In my seminar paper, I first discuss the basic physical and socio-geographical characteristics of Cairo, and then analyze the air quality according to the DPSIR model, studying the causes and sources of air pollution in Cairo, what are the consequences of polluted air, and what measures are already being taken to reduce the impact of polluted air, which not only has negative effects on human health, but also damages vegetation, buildings, and negatively impacts the economy. The most important source I used was the State of the Environment Report for 2012. In recent years, the air quality in Cairo has been improving for most pollutants, with the maximum annual limit values being exceeded only for PM particles, which the government will have to focus on in the future.
