The aim of this work was the synthesis of an effective catalyst based on cerium dioxide using the hydrothermal method. The catalytic activity would be tested in the synthesis of solvent-free propylene carbonate by the cycloaddition reaction of propylene oxide and CO2, which is abundant in nature and belongs to the greenhouse gases. Due to a pandemic Covid-19, I was not able to carry out the planned laboratory work, so I oriented my thesis on the theoretical treatment of this topic. Thus, I analyzed some already performed and published environmentally friendly syntheses of propylene carbonate. I compared different catalysts and their properties determined by the authors of the scientific articles using various analytical techniques.
