Abstract

Title:
New traits of agricultural crops gained with genetic engineering
Abstract:
The need for alternative sources of food has definitely reached its peak in the last 100 years. With the increasing growth of the population on this planet , its only logical that the need for primary agricultural foods such as potato, wheat or rice has notably risen. With the help of genome editing we can ensure a sufficient amount of healthy, naturally grown crop plants that can satisfy everyone’s need for food. With the introduction of endogenous sequences into the plant's genome, we can make a plant that is herbicide tolerant , pesticide tolerant , gives larger grains etc. Genome editing is a very handy tool in genetic engineering. A plant crop that has improved traits but is not regulated as GMO, is a plant that will be accepted by consumers and thrive well on the market.
