The work presented here is a result of analysing the existing products on the market for shading and lighting of terraces and the wishes and needs of the end user. The aim of this diploma work is to design a product for a modern terrace that will combine two functions: shading and lighting using a renewable energy source. This product is designed to extend the interior toward the exterior and make outdoor living pleasant. The terraces of nine houses manufactured by Jelovica company are taken as the starting point for the product’s dimensions. A survey was conducted with end users on their wishes and needs, and a thorough analysis of the market was conducted, including producers of classic sunshade systems, sunshade systems with integrated solar cells, and manufactures of flexible solar cells. This step was followed by a conceptual phase, starting with the production of the moodboard and conceptual sketches, followed by fast models and finalised with upgrading of the initial concept. After the design was chosen, the calculation of the wind resistance on the support arms was conducted, which enabled the dimensioning of the final model. Then the elements of an electrical circuit that supplies LEDs with the help of solar panels were included in the further design to reach the final solution. This was supported by the visualization of the conceptual model, followed by a demonstration of the use of the sun shade during the day and throughout the year, and at the end a detailed description of the components and technical designs of the final solution. The designed Shade&Light sunshade is suitable for a modern terrace and is aligned with a design concept of multi-purpose products (shading and lighting) and the trend of using renewable energy sources. The advantages of the designed sunshade compared to similar products on the market are: quality terrace lighting, economic feasibility of lighting by using a renewable energy source, minimal use of constructional elements, modularity, and easy installation.
