We live in a time when the ecological crisis has become a part of our everyday life, and when the development area of countries is also adapting to solving this problem. We were particularly interested in the field of development in Slovenia, which is regulated at the national level by the Development Strategy of Slovenia 2030, and at the regional level by regional development programs adopted by regional development agencies. We have 12 of these in Slovenia, and the goals of the master's thesis are also related to them. With the help of the analysis of regional development programs, we tried to determine in the empirical part of the task which type of development they follow in individual regional development agencies, which kind of development is typical for Slovenia and how successful it is in its mission. In the theoretical part, we presented various concepts of development in connection with environmental discourses that have occupied public space in recent decades. The connection of the theoretical work with the empirical work is followed by the presentation of an alternative possibility of the development model, which we believe would be more suitable for more successful development in our country in the future.
