Abstract

Title:Youth participation process – a no phone day
Abstract:
The thesis deals with the process of participation of young people on the spesific case of the implementation of the No Phone Day campaign at a youth centre in Denmark. It was introduced to encourage participation of young people in a youth centre by withdrawing their phones from the environment. The idea for this originally came from young people themselves. The theoretical part contains an explanation of the participation and participation of young people, the effects of participation on the individual and any obstacles that make it difficult for young people to participate. In addition, I also relate to the presence of modern technologies and their place in the leisure time of young people. I also describe in particular the Hart's Ladder of Participation (1992), which is the most frequently used instrument for determining levels of participation. I also describe youth centre as a premise where youth participation takes place, and I state the specifics of youth work in Denmark due to carrying out the empirical part in a youth centre in Denmark. The empirical part is a shorter action study to explore the possibilities of participation of young people in the youth centre environment, how young people value these opportunities on the basis of the implementation of the No Phone Day campaign, and where there is a chance of improvement in the implementation of such activities. The results show that the young people experienced the No Phone Day campaign as something positive and are generally looking forward to the projects that they and the pedagogues design and implement in the youth centre. Through the analysis of the process, some opportunities for improvement have been shown, particularly in the aspect of the involvement of young people in the planning of the campaign.
