My degree paper addresses the issue whether young people in the Community of Piran recognize an autistic person, and the social exclusion of such individuals among them. The paper consists of two parts. The theoretical part includes the history of autism, it's causes, it's charateristics, the social exclusion of people with autism, their rights and the legislation concerning atusim, and lists some non-government organisations that have been founded to help the inflicted persons. In the empirical part we have researched the degree of familiarity with autism, and if intolerance is shown towards autistic persons among the students of GEPŠ (Gimnazija Piran, Elektro in Pomorska šola Portorož), when they are being integrated into their social structure. We have found out that most young people are familiar with autism, and that almost everyone has had contact with an autistic person.
Later we decided to explore the relationship between autism and social working as well. We have done two interviews with parents of children with the spectrum of autistic disorders, where we desired to find out their view on that relationship
