Political communication is a key part of public communication, which represents a public debate. Political actors discuss important public issues, arguing for and against. Arguments that are more reasonable and rational should predominate in the debates. In my dissertation, I deal with the political communication of the US President Donald Trump via Twitter. I wonder if he adheres to the basic principles of political communication on this social network. In the first – theoretical part, I focus on describing the concepts of political communication as a political public, the concepts of mediatization and digitalization are also highlighted. Through critical discourse analysis, I discuss mediatized public discourse, where the relationship between the use of language in discourse and the power articulated in discourse is particularly important. The diploma thesis also defines social media. Special emphasis is placed on the social network Twitter, which is one of the main tools of US President Donald Trump political communication. With his entry into politics, also began a period where politicians stopped communicating with traditional media. Trump’s public communication via Twitter could be described as a steady flow of exaggerated, fabricated, boastful, scandalous, vicious, contradictory, and dubious statements. In the United States, the veracity of political statements is verified by journalists, who're specialize in verifying the best records in terms of whether political speeches and statements are in line with the most substantiated record of what the statements refer to. In the empirical part, I then analyzed his tweets based on a theoretical framework as part of an event when Twitter labeled Trump’s tweets as potentially misleading for the first time in history.
