Abstract

Title:Quality school library in Slovenia: application of the CISSL methodology on selected school library
Abstract:
The school library represents an important fulcrum for students on their way to achieving the goals of formal education, and at the same time introduces them to lifelong learning. It is important to identify the elements of a quality school library and their impact on the student. In Slovenia, the field of research on quality school libraries is weak in practice, and the most appropriate methodology has not yet been developed. As part of the master's thesis, we wanted to determine the quality of school libraries in Slovenia and at the same time check the adequacy of the CISSL methodology for researching quality school libraries, which was adapted for research purposes on the model of foreign research. We conducted a pilot study at a selected school library in Slovenia. We used three data collection techniques in combination with different school library user groups to help identify the impact and elements of a quality school library: a questionnaire for students, a focus group with professionals and school librarians, and an interview with school librarians. We found that the school library has the greatest importance in finding various information sources, which indicates the classic role of the library. Access to a computer on library premises was perceived as an important element of a quality school library that the selected school library does not currently meet. Employees are aware of the elements of a quality school library and their importance to students. The adapted CISSL methodology has proven to be appropriate, and we suggest some minor adjustments for future research.
