Enaminones are considered to be versatile building blocks in organic synthesis. Enaminone derivates, which are usually prepared from formamide acetals and active methylene compounds are highly reactive intermediates useful in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Photocatalysis is a commonly used manner to speed up the reaction.
Many of the most commonly employed visible light photocatalysts are polypyridyl complexes of Ru(bpy)32+ or Ir(bpy)3+. These complexes absorb light in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum to give stable, long-lived photoexcited states.
All reactions were analyzed using thin-layer chromatography (TLC). The content of the desired products and the starting materials were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy.
