Pincer ligands are presented in this work. The emphasis is on NCN pincer ligands, but others are also mentioned. The structure of the pincer ligands and how they can be modified to change their properties are also described. Reactions in which metal complexes of these ligands are used as catalysts are also discussed. In addition to their ability to catalyze, some other possibilities for the use of these complexes are listed. Finally, three synthetic pathways for 1,3-bis(2-pyridyl)benzene NCN pincer ligand, which I also intend to synthesize, are described, together with the preparation of metal complexes with this ligand and their potential application. In conclusion, some other pincer ligands, which are slightly different and not as common as PCP and SCS ligands, are described.
