Due to an increase in orders of one of the products, there is now a requirement in the company to manufacture an automatic assembly line. One of the assembly operations that makes part of the mentioned assembly process and which had to be automated, is the application of grease in the stator flange.
At the beginning of the master thesis, the current state of the art is presented along with the requirements that the machine will have to meet. In choosing the machine concept, we followed the guidelines contained in the literature on engineering design methods. We first divided the major function into the main and auxiliary functions, and searched for solutions to them separately. In the end, we integrated these solutions into a coherent whole. In constructing possible solutions, we followed the general guidelines of the company and client's requirements. The chosen machine concept was converted into technical documentation, assembled and tested. The solutions of the partial functions were appropriate and fulfilled the tasks described in the construction specification, which was also confirmed by the client.
The main purpose of the testing was to show that the repeatability of grease application meets the prescribed requirements. We evaluated the results using process capability indices, and compared them to the values found in similar applications. The results shown in normal distribution indicate that, considering the tolerance range prescribed, the process is capable enough if the machine is set correctly.
