The thesis discusses the survival systems of young people while taking the heavy metal subculture's context in account. Theoretical part contains information about mental illness as social construct, background and values of heavy metal subculture, the meaning of peers and friends in fighting mental health issues and about the role of social work and the means of help we can provide as social workers.
In the empirical part the results of my research are presented regarding mental health according to the subculture of heavy metal, assistance and support that is available to young people, the means that they know of and the ones that they use or might find useful.
