The main topic of my thesis is the workload of professionals in the workplace, as work can be a source of workload for a person. The theoretical part of my thesis contains a literature review about workload and the consequences and management of it. This is followed by a chapter about mental health and mental healthcare in the workplace. Then non-governmental organisations and the problems and challenges in their operation are covered. In addition, topics such as social work, supervision, intervision and cooperation both within the organisation and cooperation with others, i.e. multi-disciplinary cooperation which is of key importance at work are covered.
In the research, I wanted to find out how professionals define their work in non-governmental organisations in the field of mental health, what problems they face and what improvements are needed. I wanted to know what burdens arise in their work, what forms of support and assistance are in their opinion necessary to relieve the burden at work, and what is the role, importance and support of social work in their work. I also wanted know about the importance and the role of supervision, intervision and the cooperation in their work.
In the empirical part presents the results of a qualitative research which shows that in most cases different situations cause workload for professionals, as the field of their work is demanding, diverse and wide-ranging. The collected data show that the cause of the burden is also the problem regarding financing and malnutrition of staff. In addition, the position of non-governmental organisations in the field of mental health in Slovenia is uncertain. The support of employees, supervision and intervision are of great help to professionals in relieving the burden. However, they express the need for professional training and reduction of administrative work, as well as the desire for additional professional staff and multidisciplinary cooperation.
