Abstract

Title:Modification of the OpenEVSE electric vehicle charging station
Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to present the process of planning and implementing a modification of a charging station for electric vehicles in a way that is both affordable and feasible without the use of specialized tools. For the basis of the modification, the OpenEVSE Advanced v5 charging station was used. This is a comercial open source charging station designed by the OpenEVSE project. The schematics and software of the charging station are all available under the terms of the GNU general public license. The modifications include the changing of existing C++ software, the design of custom printed circuit boards and their implementation into a charging station, suitable for use in both private and public places. The charging station was converted to accommodate three-phase charging, with which shorter charging times were achieved. The stations current measurement system was consequently upgraded to allow energy measurement on all three electric phases. A Raspberry Pi computer was also added to allow remote monitoring and control of the charging station over a wired internet connection. The basic network infrastructure was also laid-out for the compliance of the charging station with the OCPP protocol.
