In my Graduation Thesis, I explored the needs of the elderly and the forms of assistance available in the Region of the municaplity of Nova Gorica through the perspective of social workers. I was interested in how employees see and describe the needs of the elderly, and above all what forms of assistance they currently have available in the local environment. I was also interested in the (in) adequacy of the forms of assistance offered or the shortcomings in the area. In the first part of my thesis I presented a theoretical framework on the aging and age of the population, the needs of the elderly and forms of assistance specifically in the area of the Nova Gorica Administrative Unit. I also presented the theory of the importance of social networks and the role of social work. In the second part, I presented the results of my qualitative research. In total, I conducted 6 interviews with social workers and employees working in institutions or organizations in the field of working with the elderly. The results show that institutional care, social care at home, assistance from a social work center, hospitals and other forms of assistance such as societies, community programs and informal forms of assistance are offered in the area of the Nova Gorica Administrative Unit. The benefits offered are judged to be appropriate in the light of the needs of the elderly, but there are difficulties in reaching them due to the long queues. Social workers have divided the needs of the elderly into material and non-material ones, with the emphasis being placed on the need for help from others and socializing for loneliness.
