In my thesis, I presented theoretical basics of supercritical fluids and supercritical fluid extraction. Critical point possesses critical temperature and critical pressure. Supercritical fluids exist in supercritical zone, where temperature and pressure are higher than ones in critical point. Liquids, solids, fats and oils, plant materials, water and salts can be extracted. During extraction process, soluble components are removed from solid or liquid mixtures. The extraction is based on the difference in the solubility of the components in the mixture, and the substance we get in the end is called the extract. Supercritical fluids are used as solvent instead of ordinary organic solvents in supercritical extraction. This benefits in better selectivity and faster extraction. I have described supercritical fluids, the parameters associated with process efficiency, the process itself, and its use in industry.
